Buffalo High School senior Amanda Young will be West Virginia’s                              representative in the                                2008 Macy’s Great                                   American Marching                                   Band at the Macy’s                                  Thanksgiving Day                                  Parade on November                                     27th in New York City.

Amanda, who has been first chair percussionist in the Putnam All-County Band and the Region III West Virginia All-Area Band for the past three years, was selected for her musical ability and past achievements. She is a member of the Buffalo National Honor Society, the WVU Invitational Honor Band, and a winner of the John Philip Sousa Award. In addition, Amanda is a member or the varsity softball and basketball teams.

Buffalo Band Director Mark Hopkins is justifiably proud of his student: “The Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade is one of the highest honors a high school musician can experience,” he states. “Amanda has worked very hard to earn this opportunity to march with this outstanding group of students from all over the country; this is truly a once in a lifetime experience,” he adds.

The Buffalo High School music boosters are aiding Amanda in her efforts to raise the funds needed to send her and a chaperone to New York City. In addition to lodging and meals, Amanda must have air transportation and incidental expenses required by the trip. The cost of airfare, room and board and sightseeing for the week-long event is $2,500. All money is due by mid-October.

Mr. Hopkins urges anyone who would like to help sponsor Amanda to send a donation to BHS Music Boosters, Macy’s Parade Fund at Buffalo High School, 3317 Buffalo Road, Buffalo, WV 25033.
