Winfield has proven to be a Juggernaut in Class AA Boys & Girls Track and Field. These two championships was their 11th. The Winfield Boys won their 4th straight and total of 6. The Girls won their 4th out of the last 5 years and their 5th overall. This was also their 4th sweep of both Girls & Boys Titles in the same year.
The Winfield boys team won by 18 1/2 points over The Ravenswood Red Devils ( 76 1/2 to 68 ) It would not have been that close if their 3200 Meter runner Zach Noel was not disqualification for cutting off another runner in Friday Nights final. His time was 9:43:27 over Stewart Jones of Weir his time was 9:44:71. The coaches from Winfield appealed the case but lost. Zach upset Jones from Weir in the 1600 an event Zach only had the 13th best time ( 4:59:24 ) in the state coming in. Jones had the 2nd best ( 4:43:10 ) In the state championship run Zach had a time of ( 4:30:13 ) Jones finished 4th with a 4:32:21 ) Winfield boys team won only 4 events The Pole Vault with Seth Kendall with a 12' 2" jump ( Winfield got 19 points which helped put them over in the meet , 2nd was Drew Goodman 11 ' 6" and 6th Joesph Sovine 10' 6" ) Chrstian Powers won the 110 high hurdles with a 14: 92 jump and Caleb Martin helped with a 4th. Caleb Martin also had a 4th in the 300 int. hurdles ( Noel was also 4th in the 800 meters ) Tyler May was 5th in the shot putt and Jared White was 4th in the discus. In the relays Winfield boys finished 4th in the 4X100 , Shuttle Hurdle 2nd time of 58:86, 3200 relay 5th. and 5th in the 4X400 relay. High Jump Charles Schuler 3rd with a jump of of 6' Erik Schuller was 5th .
The Girls team won by 26 1/2 points over Berkeley Springs ( 106 1/2 to 80 points ) Revenge may have been the motive for the hard work that The Winfield girls put in . Weir upset Winfield by 2 points and may have rubbed it in to much. One of the top contributors to The Winfield girls was Micah Osborne ( the senior daughter of the dean of Putnam Co. basketball coaches Poca's Allen Osborne ) along with Lisa Day they where the only seniors to score. Lisa Day put the meet championship away for the girls by winning the 800 meter run for Winfield in a time of 2:25:50 Holly Rooper was 4th.
Micah Osborne was a part of 3 wins for The Lady Generals she won the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 15:31:2 and ran on the 1st place shuttle team who won with a time of 1:05:00 ( members - Morganne Bennett, Korey Jividen, Jade Smith, Micah Osborne ) and was on the 1st place 4X200 relay team with time of 1:46:49 ( members - Emily Daly, Micah Osborne, Kelsey Spang, Emily Stewart ). Micah also was 3rd in the 300 int. hurdles. This was revenge or redemption for Micah who was scratched from the 110 hurdles last year for a false start that I didn't think was her fault since they had to use them old faulty blocks of Laidley Field's last year. Since they lost by 2 points, Micah most have loved this. Coach David Bailey used last year's loss as a motivator and it worked. Coach Shawn Anderson had the boys motivated . They had help from asst. coaches - Dick Dunlap, Greg Julian, Doug Kirk, Larry Lester, Phil Gregorey, and Roger Beckner.
Rest of Winfield's girls points - Connie Beckett 3rd in the pole vault with a jump of 8'6" 5th Jessica Schwaner. 400 Emily Stewart 2nd with a time of 59:64 5th Lisa Day. 1600 Megan Truelove 5:28:01. 300 meter hurtles Morganne Bennett 2nd with a time of 45:53. 100 hurdles 3rd Morganne Bennett with a time of 15:54. 100 yard dash Kelsey Spang 6th with a time of 12:96. 4X100 relay 4th 52:83. 200 meter dash Emily Stewart 3rd with a time of 26:28. 4X400 6th with a time of 4:24:74. 3200 relay 2nd with a time of 9:52:91. Long jump 5th Korey Jividen with a jump of 15' 10 1/4" . 3200 Megan Truelove with a time of 11:52:04.
Hurricane ran away with both girls and boys 400 meter dashes - Sophomore Terrell Martin won with a time of 48:46 almost .72 seconds faster then 2nd place. Freshman Josie Crouch won with a time of 58:45 .77 seconds better then 2nd place.

The other point was a 6th place in the 1600 relay with a time of 3:32:00 . Doing a great job with the boys coach - Perry Estep with the help of his ast. Mark Fertig.
Buffalo's boys team ties for 15 with 12 points 10 of those was won when pole vaulter Seth Bestner won the pole vault with a new state record of 15 feet and astonished everyone when he started at 14 feet ,6 inches above his state record he set at 13' 6" ( he set last year.)
