Sissonville's Lady Indians made the short trip from Pocatalico in western Kanawha County to the Charleston Catholic Athletic Complex to play the defending state runner-ups Winfield's Lady Generals from central Putnam County. On Thursday night February 28th, 2008, a record crowd of 1,250 raucous fans attended the game.

Sissonville played Winfield eight straight times in the regionals and won two of those games.

This contest started out pretty even with both teams testing each other out.

Winfield won the first quarter 17 - 15. However, Sissonville wasn't done just yet. They came to play. The Lady Indians tied the score 23 - 23  with nearly 3 minutes to play till halftime. But The Lady Generals would have none of that and out scored The Lady Indians 10 - 0 to take a 33 - 23 halftime lead on the backs of senior All-Staters Brittany Lee and Katie Cloxton.

Since The Indians were known for jumping out to a big lead, coach Paul Sutherland worked to stop that and his team did. Such defense you never saw they pushed Sissonville into 21 turnovers but had only 8 of their own. As you always hear defense wins championships.

In the second half it was worst for the third ranked Indians ( 19 - 5 )

Senior guard Kelsey Griffith got in a deeper grove hitting three of her five three-pointers  back to back giving Winfield a 49 - 30 lead with 2: 44 left in the 3rd quarter.

The Lady Generals scored the first eight points of the 4th quarter to put the game away and now led 57 - 33 with under five-and-a-half minutes to play.

Winfield outscored Sissonville 31 - 25 in the second half and led 49 - 31 after three quarters of play on their way to a 64 - 48 romp over the Indians.

Winfield was led by all state candidate Kelsey Griffith who had a double double with a game high 19 points and pulled down 10 rebounds and had a blocked Indian shot. All state guard Katie Cloxton also had a double double with 17 points and dished off 10 assists and had 4 steals. And all state forward Brittany Lee had 11 points and pulled down 5 rebounds and had 3 steals and like Katie had 1 three pointer. Senior forward Kristen Workman had 6 points and was a force in the paint . Senior forward Jessica Johnson had 4 points and also was a force in the middle. Sophomore guard Jade Smith also played well in the front court and had 5 points and hit a three pointer. Sophomore forward Sevie Cooper jammed up the middle real well and had 2 points. Also playing well was - Freshman forward Rachel Ashley, Senior guard Kelsey Spang, freshman forward Kayla Fizer.

Also playing well for the 23 - 1 Lady Generals all year - Junior forward Beth Chase, and senior forward Ellen Lawman,   freshman guard Jessica Saunders, freshman guard Brittany Shantie.

Helping coach Paul Sutherland is Coach Sherrie Munsey. They both are doing a fine job.
