WINFIELD GENERALS DESTROY RIPLEY
Kessler Leads Winners With 18 Points
Story Courtesy of Charles Ray Harper

On Tuesday, December 29th, 2009, the Winfield Generals made the
short trek to Ripley to
take on the Vikings.

All of the Winfield
starters hit double-
figures in the game.

They were lead by
Junior Garron Kessler, with a total of 18 points.  Junior Ricky Cantrell scored 17 points, Senior Austin Lewis had 14 points, Senior Adam Kline scored 12 points, and Junior Aaron Keefer added 11 points in the heated battle.

The Vikings were led by Chase Fischer, who during the game received stitches because of a cut inside the mouth, but shortly came back to score 38 points against the Generals. The game was delayed for 10 minutes because blood had to be cleaned from the hardwood.

Both teams put up a tremendous effort and the score was tied 36-36 at half time.

Winfield took control in the third quarter with a 59-48 lead. Ripley then went to a full and half court zone press and got close, but Winfield pushed harder and kept the Vikings away with free throws in the closing minutes.

Garron Kessler scored 18 points (4—3 pointers) and 3 rebounds.

Ricky Cantrell had 17 points (3—3 pointers), 2-2 free throws, 6 rebounds, 5 steals, and 5 assists.

Austin Lewis scored 14 points, 9 assists (game high), perfect at the charity line 6-6, 4 rebounds, and 1 steal.

Adam Kline added 12 points, 7 rebounds (team high), 3 blocked shots, 1 steal, and 5 assists.

Aaron Keefer scored 11 points, 5-8 at charity line, 3 rebounds, and 4 assists.

Cameron Powell scored 1 point and had 1 assist.

Winfield went on to a 73-66 win over the Ripley Vikings.  Winfield’s overall record is 3-1.
