Playing on the campus of Winfield High School Monday April 9th, 2007. In a double header, both games were pitching duels.
In game one senior pitcher Erik Schuller hurled a complete game 3 - 0 shutout of an old AA phenomenon. The Generals beat The Liberty Mountaineers from Lost Creek in Harrison County.
Erik struck out 10 Mountaineer batters and scattered five hits while giving up only one walk. Infielder Taylor Farley led The Generals in hitting, as he was 2-of-3 at the plate.
In the second game Junior pitcher Caleb Ashley pitched a complete game scattering three hits while striking out 10 Mountaineers batters against no walks.
Having the big bat in the 1 - 0 victory over The Mountaineers was senior Erik Schuller. He drove in the only run on a sacrifice fly.
Big Bats Bring Home Big Battle Over Man
On the next day, Tuesday, April 10th, The Generals took the long trek down to Man in the coal fields of Logan County.
This game was a slug fest that ended in a 18 - 17 comeback victory for Winfield.
Having a 18-14 deficit going into the 7th inning things looked bleak for The Generals. But this team never gives up. Infielder Taylar Farley pounded a grand slam home run for the win.
The Hillbillies scored three runs in the bottom of the 7th inning and they had runners at the corners. But senior Cameron Bonham came in as relief of seniors Tony Hill and Todd Hutchinson and shutdown The Hillbillies for the hard-fought victory.
Also getting in the hit parade was - Senior Cameron Bonham who was 3-of-5 hitting the ball. He slammed a double and a home run and drove in four runs.
Erik Schuller was 3-of-5 hitting the ball, drove in two runs and doubled. Infielder Evan Harmon slammed a double. Senior shortstop Jonathan Smoot drove in two runs.
Sophomore J.R. Cochran caught the last game. Cameron Bonham caught the first two games.
The Winfield team has great speed. It showed up in the two pitchers duels against Liberty Harrison.
