The Winfield Classic turned out to be a very good track meet on the campus of Winfield High School Friday evening April 20th, 2007.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The boys at Winfield are coached by Shawn Anderson and the girls are  coached by last year's  National Coach of the Year David Bailey who has been at Winfield since 1984. They have combined for numerous West Virginia State Championships.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

This year they dominated both genders again as they won the boys title by 54 points, and the girls won by 64 points.

In the boys  division Hurricane finished 3rd. Their girls Coach Steve Caldwell won the National Track Coach of the Year honor this year. He has been around Putnam County since 1990.

The Winfield boys won the meet with 127 points. Ravenswood was second with 73 points. Hurricane finished third with 52 points. Buffalo was 12th with 10 points. Winfield's B Team was 17th with 2 points.

The Winfield girls won their meet with 153 points. Charleston Catholic was 2nd with 89 points. Poca A Team was 9th with 12 points. Buffalo was 11th with 11 points and Winfield B was 11th with 11 points.

Champions - 1st Holy Rooper 1,600 meters 5:50.77 2nd Megan Truelove 5:51.06 both Winfield , Lisa Day Winfield was 2nd in 800 meter  2:30.27 . 3200 Meters 1st Megan Truelove Winfield  12:18:45, 300 Meter Hurdles 1st Morganne Bennett Winfield 48:75,  2nd Jade Smith Winfield 51:52, 100 Meter Hurdles 2nd Micah Osborne Winfield 15:60 ( 1st was 15:57 ) 4 x 100 Meter Relay Winfield 2nd 54:16  ( Kelsey Spang, Emily Daly, Lexie Puterbaugh, Bree O'Dell ) , 4 x 200 Meter Relay 1st Winfield  1:51.45 ( Emily Daly, Emily Stewart, Micah Osborne, Kelsey Spang ) 4 x 400  Meter Relay 1st Winfield 4:32.63 ( Lisa Day, Emily Daly, Emily Stewart, Lexie Puterbaugh ) 4 x 800 Meter Relay 1st Winfield 10:41.31 ( Lisa Day, Megan Truelove, Holly Rooper, Lexie Puterbaugh ) Shuttle Hurdle Relay 1st Winfield 68.13 ( Morganne Bennett, Micah Osborne, Stephanie Wills, Korey Jividen )

 

Field Events

Pole Vault: 1st Emily Lewis with a new school record  8' 9" ( and she had 10 of Buffalo's 11 points )( her 5th gold metal this year.)  2nd Adriann Gaylor Winfield 8'3"

Note to mention: Poca's Jordan Meadows didn't make it to the top two but she was third in an event. Meadows won the high point championship title girls division with 36 points. She won the 100 yard dash, 100 Meters and Long jump and was third in the High jump.

Hurricane's Kade Asay won the boy's high point championship with 25 1/2 points winning the 400 & 800. He was 4th in the High jump and ran a leg of the 4 x 400 Relay team that took third at The Putnam County Championships at Hurricane April 16, 2007.

Hurricane won the Boys and Girls championship something they haven't done since back in the 80's.

Field Events  -  High Jump 1st Daniel Jarrell Cabell Midland 6' 4"  ( State Champion for The Poca Dots last year from Red House then. ) 2nd Erik Schuller or Cody Schuler both from Winfield 5'10"

Pole Vault 1st place Seth Beckner Buffalo 14' ( his 5th at that height of 14 foot or more is 8th gold metal this year after getting 14' 5 " at Glenville meet at Pioneer field on the college campus the next day Saturday. ) 2nd  Drew Goodman Winfield and 2nd Seth Kendall of Winfield both got 11 ' 3 " Long Jump - 2nd Daniel Brison Winfield 18' 11".
