Teays Physical Therapy Center, Inc. is
pleased
to present this week’s
“Cager of the Week” award to
Courtney
Wilson from Calvary
Baptist Academy.
The Calvary Baptist
Academy Lady Patriots
had a tremendous end
to the 2008-2009 basketball season. The Lady Patriots defeated New
Life Christian Academy and Elk Valley Christian to win their third
consecutive Mountaineer Christian Association Conference
Championship.
In those games, the Lady Patriots looked to their captain and leader
Courtney Wilson for guidance. Courtney responded with two double
doubles to lead her team to the championship. Courtney has scored
30 points in 3 games this year, along with averaging double figures
in rebounds.
When asked about her success, Courtney says, “We played well
together in the tournament. We moved the ball around and got it
inside, and I was able to get some good looks for easy baskets.”
Courtney is averaging more than 17 points a game, listing her in the
top five of non-WVSSAC schools in the Kanawha Valley. She has more
than 700 points as a junior, and looks to enter the 1000 point club
next season.
When asked about next year, Courtney says, “We want to come back and
work hard again next year. I’d love to make it four championships
in a row to finish out my high school career.”
Courtney was voted MVP of the MCAC tournament and was selected first
team all-conference.
A humble Courtney gives credit to her coach, saying, “Our coach,
Trudy Totten, really gets us ready to play games. She knows how to
handle us, and teaches us the ins and outs of the game very well.”
The Calvary Baptist Academy Lady Patriots will be ready to play
another exciting season next year.
Please read next week for a summary of our Cager of the Year
reception honoring all weekly Cager recipients.
