The West Virginia Board of Education recognized 62 schools in 28 counties as Exemplary Schools during its September Board meeting in Charleston.
“Staff, parents, students and communities worked very hard to achieve this honor,” said Board President Delores Cook. “This accomplishment speaks highly for the quality of education throughout West Virginia, with schools from every area of our state identified as exemplary.”
“It is encouraging to note the diverse school representation: schools of various sizes, both low enrollment and high enrollment; rural and urban schools; Title I schools and nonTitle I schools; and schools of various configurations, all made the exemplary list,” added Office of Education Performance Audits Executive Director Kenna Seal.
The following [Putnam] schools have been recognized as Exemplary Accreditation status schools.
Confidence Elementary School
Conner Street Elementary School
Hurricane Town Elementary School
Poca Elementary School
Scott Teays Elementary School
West Teays Elementary School
Winfield High School
To achieve Exemplary status, a school must meet a high level of student proficiency in core subjects; meet a student attendance rate of at or above 94 percent; meet a student graduation rate of at or above 85 percent; meet a college or post-secondary attendance rate of 55 percent; and meet a five percent standard of students who successfully complete Advanced Placement, dual credit, and honors classes as defined by state Policy 2510.
The Exemplary School will be celebrated during a special ceremony later this year. For more information, please contact Dr. Kenna Seal or Dr. Donna Davis at (304) 558-3788.
