Twenty-six students from Putnam County Schools have earned recognition from the College Board for exceptional achievement on the national AP exams given to high school students enrolled in college-level courses. The College Board recognizes several levels of achievement based on students’ performance on these exams.
Eighteen Putnam students qualified for the 2007 AP Scholar Award by completing three or more AP Exams with passing grades of 3 or higher. The AP Scholars from Hurricane High School are Alyssa Anderson, Aaron Blood, Christopher Blosser, Seth Cox, Blake Ferrante, Emily Gay, Michael Gramlich, Matthew Hartsog, Lauren Oyler, Alexander Salazar, James Tolley, Stephanie Wrigley, and Laurel Zirbel. The AP Scholars from Winfield High School are David Chaffin, Michael Hare, Samantha McVey, Keaton Neely, and Olivia Wymer.
Hurricane High students Kristine Bybee-Finley, Kayla Imes, Claire Rogan, and Lynsey Spense were named 2007 AP Scholars with Honor for earning a 3.25 average on all exams taken and grades of 3 or higher on four or more exams.
Hurricane High students Christopher Lipinski, Melissa Sayre, Nicholas Schamp, and Clinton Smith were named 2007 AP Scholars with Distinction for their average scores of at least 3.5 on all exams taken and grades 3 or higher on five or more exams.
Several of these students are seniors this year and have an opportunity to complete more college level work and earn further distinction.
Putnam County Schools offers Advanced Placement courses in all four county high schools. Most of the nation’s colleges and universities award college credit or advanced academic standing based on successful performance on AP exams.
