With the new Devonshire subdivision about to bring 1,000 new families into Putnam County, one Scott Depot church is expanding its children's ministries to meet the need of its community.
Teays Valley Church of God cut the ribbon for its new Children's Center during a special worship service Sunday morning, June14th.
The $300,000 complex includes a pair of
bright-colored classrooms with carpeting and flat-screen video centers, countertops, and
cabinets. An expanded lobby with stone-tile floors leads to the
classrooms and will serve all members and visitors of the growing
church.
The new Children's Center will be used in combination with the
church's nearby youth house.
"We were outgrowing our current space for
children and we wanted a place that would also meet outside needs of
kids in the community," says the church's Pastor, Dr. Melissa
Pratt.
In order to minister to Scott Depot area children with their
new space, the church is opening an After School Program this fall
which will service Scott Teays Elementary.
Principal Beth Pitzer participated in the dedication of the
building's ribbon cutting ceremony.
"This church has been so great to our school," says Pitzer. "We look
forward to working with them more this fall."
Information regarding After School Care can be found at: www.tvcog.org. In
addition to the After School Care, the new rooms will be available
for community persons to reserve for children’s birthday parties.
The new Children's
Center is the latest component in TVCOG's expansion of ministries. The
church is expanding its recreation center off Teays Valley Road.
Outdoor volleyball courts have been installed and used for two
volleyball leagues. The latest league championship was won by the
Teays Valley Express.
Teays Valley Church of God is located at 4430 Teays Valley Road, in
Scott Depot just east of exit 40 on Interstate 64.
