After years of planning, work will soon begin on our county’s newest school campus.
Putnam County school board members on Tuesday awarded more than $7.2 million in contracts for work on the new Teays Valley-area elementary school.
At their meeting Tuesday, board members voted to grant 14 contracts to build and furnish the new school. The state’s School Building Authority still must approve all the contracts.
The new school is being built at the intersection of Teays Valley Road and W.Va. 34. It is expected to alleviate overcrowding in other elementary schools. Construction is set to start by August.
Also Tuesday, school board members went into executive session to issue Superintendent Chuck Hatfield’s yearly evaluation. Because of employee confidentiality, details of the evaluation are not open to the public. Board members also voted to hire Williamson Shriver Architects Inc. for a project that will add two new classrooms to Eastbrook Elementary.
