SAFETY BUG PROMOTES GOOD DRIVING
Live-Saving Lesson For WHS Students

Winfield High School seniors received an important lesson on                                   drunk driving – from                               behind the wheel of                                    the Safety Bug.

The Arthur Agency, a                                  local affiliate of Erie                               Insurance, teamed                                    with the school to                                   bring the Erie Lookin’ Out Safety Bug, a car that simulates the effects of driving while intoxicated, to the school.

On April 18th, the school used part of a $2,000 grant received from Erie Insurance to promote safe driving habits. The bug will be one of many activities they use to promote driver safety.

The group set up part of the school parking lot as an obstacle course, through which seniors  drive and rode in the Safety Bug. The car is specially programmed to allow students to experience the effects of the impairments caused from drinking alcohol and driving.

This was be one of many activities promoting safe driving that the group has held throughout the year, and sponsors hope it served as a reminder of the dangers of drunk driving as students prepare for Prom in May.
