Teams of students from Putnam County Schools used their training in                               math, science, and                              technology to compete                                    in the fourth annual                                 Toyota Robotics                                 Competition held at                                     the Putnam Career &                                Technical Center in                                  Eleanor.

Students conceptualized, designed, built, tested, and programmed robots to perform game-specific tasks.

Winfield High School Team I tied with Teays Valley Christian for first place, and Winfield High School Team II placed second.   Hurricane High School was the Overall School Winner.

Superintendent of Schools Harold "Chuck" Hatfield believes this competition supports West Virginia’s 21st Century learning initiative.  “The whole activity from conception to competition challenges students to think critically, problem solve, collaborate, communicate, and perform,” he says.

Students on the first place team received $500 scholarships, second place winners received $350 scholarships, and Overall team members received $200 scholarships. All scholarships are to the college of the students' choice. In addition, all winners received trophies for their schools.
