Ravenswood and Winfield made the short trek to the campus of Riverside High school Thursday night March 6th, 2008 to play for the Class AA Region 5 Championship.
It was a game Ravenswood has waited a year to play after winning the state title in 2006. Ravenswood had a big lead late in the game and let Winfield come back not scoring in the last four minutes of the game. The players and coaches posted a bulletin all over and never forgot the 2007 game. They got revenge on Winfield when Caleb Ashley hit his 3 pointers to end the game and get his 12th point, Ravenswood had keep Winfield scoreless for the last 3 minutes till then.
Winfield helped the Ravenswood cause missing a lot of layups and seven foul shots in the second half. (Ravenswood's German transfer was the difference in the game, their 6-foot-6 center Klaus Bogdanovics) All-State guard Dusty Mullins Dusty had 26 points 4 rebounds 2 assists and a steal. Klaus had 6 points, 12 rebounds and 5 assists.
Winfield was led by senior All-State guard Caleb Ashley who had 12 points and pulled down 10 rebounds for a double-double. Ashley also had three steals.
Senior point guard Lamar Clark had a team-high 16 points.
Senior guard Sammy Lemmerman had nine points and dished off six assists.
Sophomore Adam Kline had nine points and pulled down nine rebounds.
Junior Derek Buckner had seven points and pulled down nine rebounds.
Junior Charles Schuler had two points.
Ravenswood went on to a 61-57 hard fought victory and is 24 - 1 on the season .
Winfield is 9 - 16 and with the 12 forfeits 21 - 4
