PUTNAM SCHOOLS YOUNG WRITERS NAMED
Talented Students Recognized For Work

Putnam County Schools

Putnam County students demonstrated their composition skills as                                 they were named                                   Putnam County Schools                             Young Writers’ Contest                           winners in their grade                             levels. Students in                                  elementary and middle                             levels composed,                                    revised, and edited                         compositions under the supervision of their teachers before submitting entries for county judging.

The following entries won at the county level and have been forwarded to the West Virginia Central  Writing Project for judging at the state level:

Grades 1 – 2: Ashley Cline of Hurricane Town Elementary for “ The Missing Car”; teacher, Nancy Fellure.

Grades 3 – 4: Rachel Martin of Buffalo Elementary for “Why Crocodiles Have Sharp Teeth”; teacher, Rachel Hull.

Grades 5 – 6: Margaret Coppola of Scott Teays Elementary for “A Tale of Two Hamsters”; teacher, Phyllis Payne.

Grades 7 – 8: Brooke Miller of Winfield Middle for “Saving Zane”; teachers, Kara Brown and Kathy Gordon. 

These county winners will now compete in state competition and will be recognized at the West Virginia Young Writers’ Celebration at the University of Charleston in May.
