PUTNAM HEROES CELEBRATE 25 YEARS Fire School Held At GW In Eleanor

The 25th annual fire school was held on May 2nd, 3rd and 4th at George Washington Middle School in Eleanor.

This fire school was put on by the Putnam County Fireman's Association which includes all eight county departments.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The 2008 event was sponsored this year by the Fireman's Association, The Putnam County Fire Board, RESA III, ABC Fire Equipment and Sales, The Putnam County Rotary Club, and Premier Pyrotechnics.

The classes started out Friday evening with awareness classes in Trench Rescue, Hazardous Materials, and Confined Space Rescue, with Operation Levels of each on Saturday and Sunday. Also a round table dissuasion with the State Fire Commission and The West Virginia Fire Commission where the happenings of the fire departments and training were discussed.

A check was received by President of the Fireman's Association Robert Frank Stover in the amount of $1500.00 from The Putnam County Rotary Club which will go to towards the expenses of the fire school.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

A plaque was given to Chip "BENO" Stallard for starting the fire school 25 years ago. It was accepted by Victor Stallard, Sr., the father of BENO who was in California conducting workshops on disaster preparedness.

Saturday started off at 7:00 a.m. with a wonderful breakfast than more classes including last night continuations and others including NFIRs, Advanced Structure Firefighting, Vehicle Firefighting, Rope Rescue Low Angle, Heavy Vehicle Extrication, Pump Operations, Basic Firefighting For Juniors, Incident Safety Officer, and NIMS 400. finishing out of classes at 5:00 p.m.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

At 7:00 a.m. a cookout was provided at the City of Eleanor Park followed by a special fireworks show celebrating 25 years of fire school.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Sunday started off at 9:00 a.m. with classes running until up to 5:00 p.m.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

A good time was had by all who attended or instructed at the fire school from all parts of the state including departments from Putnam, Cabell, Kanawha, Wood, Lincoln, Mason, Jackson, Fayette, Roane, Clay, and Wert Counties.
