PUTNAM COUNTY GIVES THANKS TO GOD
2009 Community Thanksgiving Service
By Mark Hallburn

The sanctuary of St. John United Methodist Church was packed
Tuesday night as
people of faith from all
over Putnam County
gathered for the annual
Thanksgiving Service.

Sponsored by the
Teays Valley Ministerial
Association and
organized by Rector
Cheryl Winter of St.
Timothy's in the Valley,
the annual gathering is
a Putnam County
tradition that everyone
in attendance looks
forward to.

This year, Putnam
County native Bethany
Carr preached the
sermon, called "Thank
GOODness." The
enthusiastic Carr is the Associate Pastor at Teays Valley Church of the Nazarene.

The Community Choir, the band, Fern Medley-Forsythe, and Joe McCullough led music for the service with host pastor Martin Hallett welcoming the congregation and Jim McGehee saying the Thanksgiving Prayer. Pastor Rob Laukoter read scripture and retired pastor and Christian columnist Bill Ellis led the congregation in prayer.

Youth Pastors Wendy Watts and Chad Pauley  led children's church, wrapping up the community effort.

A special offering was given and food was collected to support the Community Cupboard, and Treasurer Joyce Moore spoke to the congregation about the nearly 30-year-old ministry that feeds the less fortunate in Putnam County.

The evening concluded with the singing of the classic hymn "How Great Though Art" before Hallett blessed the service with a closing prayer.
