Putnam County schools will undergo several administrative changes this year, including new principals and assistants at both the elementary and secondary levels.
New to the principalship this year is Tammy Dill, who will serve as principal of Lakeside Elementary. Mrs. Dill has been the assistant principal at Winfield Elementary School for the past two years. Prior to that, she taught in Putnam County elementary schools for twenty-six years.
Dill replaces Karen Fragale, who is moving to Conner Street Elementary. Mrs. Fragale was assistant principal of Winfield Elementary before becoming principal at Lakeside. She was an elementary educator with thirteen years of teaching experience and five years in administration in Putnam County.
Doug Pitzer of Rock Branch Elementary is moving to the principalship of Putnam’s newest elementary school in Teays Valley. Mr. Pitzer has served for eleven years in Putnam County administrative roles, including principal at Rock Branch and assistant principal at both West Teays and George Washington Middle Schools.
Sonya Shue will be the new principal at Rock Branch Elementary. Shue, who leaves the position of assistant principal at Scott Teays Elementary, had also served in that position at George Washington Middle School. Mrs. Shue was an elementary and middle school teacher before becoming an administrator; she has twenty-four years of experience in Putnam County Schools.
New to Putnam County as principal of Hurricane High School is Richard Campbell. Mr. Campbell comes to Putnam from St. Albans High School, where he has been vice principal since 1999. Prior to that, he was acting vice principal at Stonewall Junior High and a teacher in Kanawha County. Campbell is no stranger to Hurricane High School, however, as he did his student teaching there in 1979. He has twenty-nine years of experience in public education.
Sara Welch, assistant principal at Hurricane High School, is moving to that position at Winfield High. Mrs. Welch was an administrator at Hurricane High for four years after having taught for thirty-one years.
Lisa Lewis is Putnam County’s newest assistant principal as she moves to Winfield Elementary School from her teaching position at Hurricane Town Elementary. Mrs. Lewis has taught in Putnam County for seventeen years and served as acting principal at Hurricane Town for one year in a previous principal’s absence.
Two assistant principal positions at Hurricane High School remain open at this time. School officials expect to fill those positions before the end of summer.
