A clerk at City National Bank in Scott Depot is
credited with cracking
a crime earlier this
month. According to
Hurricane Police, she
turned in the license
plate of a man
accused of trying to
cash a $600 bad
check.
After an investigation, by HPD Cpl. Chad Runyon, a suspect was arrested in Charleston by federal marshals.
Kevin Duane Peal is charged with felony forgery.
According to the criminal complaint, posted above, on July 11th, Peal broke into an SUV belonging to Amy Shamblin, of Hurricane between noon and 2:30 p.m. and stole her purse containing her checks, numerous credit cards and her social security card.
On an undisclosed date, Peal is accused of trying to cash a $600 check at City National. The clerk declined to cash the check, noted a description of Peal's vehicle, and registration, then called police, the complaint states.
City National Bank Regional Manager Amanda Curry declined to comment on her alert clerk's crime-solving ability and referred the matter to Attorney John Alderman at the corporate office in Cross Lanes. A voice mail has not been returned seeking comment.
Peal was arrested July 29th, and transported to the South Central Regional Jail and Correctional Facility in Charleston.
Kanawha County Magistrate Todd Holloran set Peal's bond at $10,000.
Peal was then transported to the Western Regional Jail and Correctional Facility in Barboursville. Officials booked and photographed him at 11:30 a.m., July 30th.
Peal's case number is: 08F-221.
