PATTON NAMED GAMER OF THE WEEK
Press Release

Teays Physical Therapy Center, Inc. is pleased to present this week’s "Gridiron Gamer of the Week" award to Nathan Patton of Poca High School.

The last couple years have been rough for the Poca Dots, but the team has turned it around this year. A lot of that has to do with the running of senior tailback Nathan Patton. Last week in a 40-14 win over Buffalo, Nathan had 10 carries for 114 yards and 2 touchdowns. When asked about his success, Nathan directs all the credit to his offensive line. Nathan says, “Our entire blocking last week was unbelievable. Our offensive line really opened the holes up, and all I had to do is hit them hard. I did so and it allowed me to have success.” Head Coach Bob Lemley agrees with his senior running back. “Last week, Nathan carried the ball the best that I have seen him since he has been at Poca High School. He did an amazing job of really seeing the holes and hitting them hard, and it has allowed him to have success,” says Lemley. Nathan is not only a good player on the field; he is a great player off the field as well. Coach Lemley says, “Nathan is a quiet type kid, and he is also a leader. The kids on the team call him “Grandpa”, and I think that nickname shows his leadership ability.” Nathan also excels in the classroom where he carries a 3.72 GPA.

When asked about the teams’ success for the rest of the year, Nathan says, “We have the toughest part of our schedule ahead, but I think we can win a few more games and get into the playoffs.” Head Coach Lemley agrees. “We have a tough schedule for the rest of the season, but our goal at the beginning of the season was to get back into the playoffs, and then go from there. I think we will do just that, and then we will see what happens,” says Coach Lemley.

Nathan compares his running style to NFL All-Time leading rusher Emmitt Smith. “I like to say that I run like Emmitt Smith, because he is only 5”8”, much like me. Yet he still runs hard. I try to pattern myself like that,” says Nathan. Head Coach Bob Lemley compares him to other backs. “I would say that Nathan runs like current Marshall running backs Chubb Small and Ahmad Bradshaw. When he hits the hole and gets in the open field, he could turn on the jets and make something happen,” says Coach Lemley.

Look for Nathan and other local area high school athletes to be named next week’s Gridiron Gamer of the Week presented by Teays Physical Therapy Center, Inc.
