1 Thessalonians 1:1-10
Acts 16:31 – "Believe on Jesus Christ and be saved."
Acts 4:12 – "No other name where you must be saved – Jesus"
Satan cannot take anything away from the condition of salvation or the plan of salvation.
Satan can only confound the mind of sinners by addition not subtraction.
If conditions were place by God to salvation, Satan might take way those conditions so that men would not be saved.
Satan’s method of deceiving men has been to add to the simplicity of the gospel.
Salvation is by faith!
Repentance is defined as “a change of mind”, literally a turning about.
Matthew 21:28-32 - "He denied what his father had requested, then he did what his father commanded. That change of mind is repentance."
2 Timothy 2:24-25 - "As the servant of God teaches the Word of God, the truth of the Word of God will be understood by the Holy Spirit In the mind of the hearer and the hearer will change his mind because of the truth presented. This change of mind is repentance."
Acts 5:31 – "Repentance is a gift of God."
Acts 11:18 – "God has granted Gentiles life through believing in Jesus Christ."
Acts 20:21 – "Change your mind about God and have faith in Jesus Christ."
Acts 26:19-20 – "Repent and turn to God."
Romans 2:4 – "God leads you to change your mind about Him."
2 Corinthians 7:10 – "Repentance is not sorrow for sins, it is a change of mind, a change of attitude which does produce a change of direction in heart, mind, and behavior."
Repentance is a change of mind toward the revealed truth of the Word of God.
Preachers are to call people to believe that Jesus Christ had been raised from the dead. Those who had denied Jesus was raised are now asked to believe Jesus was raised.
There must be a change of mind before you can believe.
2 Peter 3:9 – "God’s desire is for everyone to change their mind about him."
A change in mind brought a person from unbelief to belief, from rejection of the truth to faith in the truth.
Matthew 3:2 – "John the Baptist called people to repent."
Matthew 4:17 – "Jesus called people to repent."
Matthew 21:43-44 - "There was no change of life as the result of the change of mind. Judgment will come upon all those who refuse to repent."
Acts 2:36-38 – "Change your mind about Christ. Change your mind about the person who invited you to repent. Baptism became the symbol of the change of mind."
You no longer identify yourself with the people who don’t believe, but you identify yourself with him who changed your mind about God.
2 Corinthians 7:8-10 – "Godly sorrow is produced in you when you see sin as God sees sin, this will lead to a change of mind toward sin."
Sorrow is a prerequisite to repentance.
Repentance is not a prerequisite to salvation.
Repentance is included in believing. When you believe, you turn from doubt or unbelief through faith in the revealed truth of Jesus.
1 Thessalonians 1:9 – "Turned to God from idols. You abandon your idols and turn to God is one turn."
What have you turned from when Jesus saved you?
Have you repented of your sins?
Have you changed your mind about Jesus Christ the Messiah?
