The Path Of Discipleship

Isaiah 9:6 (NKJV)” For unto us a Child is born, Unto us a Son is given; And the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.”

Psalms 32:8 (NKJV) “I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will guide you with My eye.”

The Lord is your counsel and He aims at discipleship.

Discipleship is the path you should take.  It's God's way of counseling you.  It's not your way you would normally take UNTIL JESUS CAME INTO YOUR LIFE.

Romans 6:17-19 (NKJV) "But God be thanked that though you were slaves of sin, yet you obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine to which you were delivered. And having been set free from sin, you became slaves of righteousness.  I speak in human terms because of the weakness of your flesh. For just as you presented your members as slaves of uncleanness, and of lawlessness leading to more lawlessness, so now present your members as slaves of righteousness for holiness."

What is the effect of discipleship in my life?

1.  The Holy Spirit will counsel me to live each day in the right path of godliness.

Titus 2:11-14 (NKJV) “ For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men, teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly in the present age,  looking for the blessed hope and glorious appearing of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ,  who gave Himself for us, that He might redeem us from every lawless deed and purify for Himself His own special people, zealous for good works.”

Living soberly is living without [denying myself of that ungodliness and lusts] to abstain from - to the right path of godliness.

The Holy Spirit will lead you to remove "that lawless deed" [battles of temptation, struggles with lust to be set free (purity).

1 Timothy 4:7-8 (NKJV) "...Exercise yourself toward godliness. For bodily exercise profits a little, but godliness is profitable for all things, having promise of the life that now is and of that which is to come.”

Living godly effects every area of your life.   Godliness is the life of discipleship.  Its the path righteousness for you to live while following Jesus.

2 Timothy 2:21 (NKJV) “Therefore if anyone cleanses himself from the latter, he will be a vessel for honor, sanctified [discipled or counseled] and useful for the Master, prepared for every good work.”

2.  The Holy Spirit will counsel me to grow in holiness

1 Peter 1:14 (NKJV) “ as obedient children, not conforming yourselves to the former lusts, as in your ignorance;  but as He who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct,

Hebrews 12:9-11 (NKJV) “Furthermore, we have had human fathers who corrected us, and we paid them respect. Shall we not much more readily be in subjection to the Father of spirits and live?  For they indeed for a few days chastened us as seemed best to them, but He for our profit, that we may be partakers of His holiness. Now no chastening seems to be joyful for the present, but painful; nevertheless, afterward it yields the peaceable fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it.

The counsel of the Holy Spirit will never be to follow your appetite for sin, your desire to get even, or satisfy your thirst  with former lusts.

Luke 9:23 (NKJV) “Then He said to them all, "If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow Me.

3.  The Holy Spirit will counsel me to get to know God

Philippians 3:10 (NKJV) “ that I may know Him and the power of His resurrection, and the fellowship of His sufferings, being conformed to His death,  if, by any means, I may attain to the resurrection from the dead.  Not that I have already attained, or am already perfected; but I press on, that I may lay hold of that for which Christ Jesus has also laid hold of me. Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead,  I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.”

Know Jesus, His power to bring me out of my sinful living, fellowship of suffering and conforming to His death.

Resurrection - the out-raising from dead living [

Prize - get to know him better.
