Psalms 106:6 (NLT)”Both we and our ancestors have sinned. We have done wrong! We have acted wickedly!”
If we must mention our fathers’ faults, its not to protect ourselves, but to confess our life’s story is no brighter than theirs.
Isaiah said “Isaiah 53:6 (GW) “We have all strayed like sheep. Each one of us has turned to go his own way.”
We are all children of sinners. So no one can exalt yourself. There is none that does good!
WHAT IS THE CAUSE OF YOUR FATHER’S SINS?
Sin is defined as:
· Lack of conformity to the moral law of God, or
· Anything in the human being which does not express the holy character of God
There are only two kinds of evil: physical and moral.
· When you do what you should not to do or
· When you omit to do what you should to do or
· When you are what you should not to be or
· When you are not what you should to be, you are charged with sin.
Your Father’s sins were present in their nature before it expressed itself in their deeds.
HOW DO WE KNOW THIS TO BE TRUE?
Your father’s sins were present in their father’s sins and so on.
Romans 5:12 (TEV) “Sin came into the world through one man, and his sin brought death with it. As a result, death has spread to the whole human race because everyone has sinned.”
Satan tempted Eve to sin, then Adam personally chose to disobey God and was held responsible for his sin.
Satan acted on Adam and Eve’s God-given desire for beauty, knowledge, and food.
Adam freely chose to disobey God and to obey the deception of the evil one.
When God created Adam, he gave humanity:
· The power of choice – which enabled him to choose contrary to the known will of God, to obey God or choose to disobey God.
When Satan fell, he fell without any external temptation. He sinned deliberately.
God said Genesis 3:16-19 (NLT) “to the woman, "You will bear children with intense pain and suffering. And though your desire will be for your husband, he will be your master." And to Adam he said, "Because you listened to your wife and ate the fruit I told you not to eat, I have placed a curse on the ground. All your life you will struggle to scratch a living from it. It will grow thorns and thistles for you, though you will eat of its grains. All your life you will sweat to produce food, until your dying day. Then you will return to the ground from which you came. For you were made from dust, and to the dust you will return."
Disobedience is a deadly sin.
1. My sin originated through Adam, sin came into the world and with it all the universal consequences of sin.
2. I am a sinner because Adam ate of the fruit of the tree of knowledge of good and evil.
3. My ancestors sinned just like I do. I desire in my heart to choose my own self-interests rather than God’s interests.
OUR FIRST FATHER’S SIN HAD A HUGE EFFECT ON THE FIRST PARENT’S AND MY LIFE.
· It effected my relationship to God
· It effected my human nature with an inability to do anything pleasing to God and now they possessed a corrupt nature.
· It effected my body:
death was physical: which is the separation of the soul and body,
death was spiritual: which is the separation of the soul from God,
death was eternal: which is the eternal separation of the soul from God
· It effected my environment – why I have to work, have hardship and difficulties
God was fully aware that Adam would fall into sin and become utterly ruined even before he created him. God still created Adam for His glory, purpose, and planned a way of redemption.
Ephesians 1:4-5 (TLB) “Long ago, even before he made the world, God chose us to be his very own through what Christ would do for us; he decided then to make us holy in his eyes, without a single fault--we who stand before him covered with his love. His unchanging plan has always been to adopt us into his own family by sending Jesus Christ to die for us. And he did this because he wanted to!”
WHAT DID IT COST JESUS TO DIE FOR YOU?
Video of PASSION OF CHRIST (Beating, scourging)
Isaiah 53:5-8 (MSG) “But it was our sins that did that to him, that ripped and tore and crushed him…He was beaten, he was tortured…beaten bloody for the sins of my people.”
1. Jesus’ beaten, bloody body satisfied God’s demands for justice for my sin
1 Peter 2:24 (CEV) “Christ carried the burden of our sins. He was nailed to the cross, so that we would stop sinning and start living right. By his cuts and bruises you are healed.”
Romans 3:25 (NLT) “For God sent Jesus to take the punishment for our sins and to satisfy God's anger against us. We are made right with God when we believe that Jesus shed his blood, sacrificing his life for us. God was being entirely fair and just when he did not punish those who sinned in former times.”
2. Jesus nailed to the cross appeased God’s wrath for my sin
1 Peter 3:18 (NLT) “Christ also suffered when he died for our sins once for all time. He never sinned, but he died for sinners that he might bring us safely home to God. He suffered physical death, but he was raised to life in the Spirit.”
3. Jesus gave his life as a ransom for my sin so I could have eternal life with God
