When the City of Hurricane cites a property owner for messy conditions, it does so with a 48-hour deadline to comply and the threat of a whopping $500 fine.
Apparently those rules don't apply to Hurricane's Mayor Scott D. Edwards. "His honor" is the "proud" owner of Hurricane's Old Town Hall, the nearly 50-year civic center.
In August, acting on a tip from a reader, PutnamLIVE.com brought our camera to Old Town Hall and documented tall weeds, broken windows, and missing siding, as well as holes in siding. Edwards reacted by having the Hurricane Police Department threaten PutnamLIVE.com with trespassing charges, and by cutting the weeds, but little else.
So, in late October, using zoom lenses while standing on public property, PutnamLIVE.com paid Old Town Hall a follow-up visit. The building is still an eyesore.
As you can clearly see by these photos, the siding still has holes, where there is siding at all. Windows are still broken, including the window with a bullet hole.
In the photo below, siding is taped together, below a section of the building that is missing siding.
When Edwards ran for Hurricane Mayor, he promised to run the town "like a business." Does this mean the new city hall will soon look like Old Town Hall? Possibly. PutnamLIVE.com's camera found tall weeds there last August, however, since the building is made of brick, at least it won't have holes in the siding like Old Town Hall continues to have.
When will Edwards repair the problems at Old Town Hall? Will he ever make the repairs? Who knows? Edwards doesn't return calls to PutnamLIVE.com.
