Whatever happened to "An honest day's work for an honest day's pay?"
One word: Laziness.
Scratch that.
TWO words: EXTREME LAZINESS!
Scratch that.
THREE words: LACK OF ETHICS!
If Haynes is serious, then this is yet another reason for him to IMMEDIATELY RESIGN!
At $36,600 a year, at 26 meetings, that comes to a whopping $14,000-plus PER MEETING!
Of course, that's assuming Haynes and the other commissioners don't take a vacation-which, of course, they are entitled to take.
Some people might use two more words: HIGHWAY ROBBERY!
Truth be told, under West Virginia law, county commissioners are only required to attend a handful of meetings a year.
One word for that: RIDICULOUS!
Some will say, "Elected officials aren't required to set office hours."
Again, RIDICULOUS!
Other Putnam County elected officials report to work every day. Many work long hours. Long hours. They include:
Putnam County Assessor Sherry
Hayes
Putnam County Clerk W. Brian
Wood
Putnam County Prosecutor Mark A. Sorsaia
Putnam Circuit Clerk Ronnie Matthews
Putnam Circuit Judge O.C. "Hobby" Spaulding
Putnam Circuit Judge Phillip M. Stowers
Putnam County Sheriff Mark A. Smith
Putnam County Magistrate Kim M. Blair
Putnam County Magistrate Kylene Brown
Putnam County Magistrate Linda J. Hunt
Putnam County Family Law Judge Chip Watkins
So while all of these other elected Putnam County officials work every day, why does Commissioner Haynes think he should only have to show up to "work" twice a month?
One more word: Greed.
Commissioner Haynes should be ashamed of himself. However, I don't recall Commissioner Haynes ever having any shame.
PutnamLIVE.com believes Putnam County Commissioners should earn their money. Instead of having one meeting a week, it's time for them to come to their offices EVERY DAY!
Until they do, their lack of a work ethic is an insult to other Putnam County elected officials, and more importantly, an insult to the honest, hard-working citizens of Putnam County.
