We are very excited about Poca’s upcoming MusicFest 2008 show choir competition. There are a number of firsts for this year’s event. Having outgrown the facilities at Poca High School, this year’s competition will be held for the first time in the Charleston Civic Center Grand Hall and Little Theater.
The challenge has been to find a facility that not only provides a competition area with adequate seating, but also provides dressing rooms for 1,000 students. With increased interest in this event, we have finally moved outside of Poca High School.
MusicFest has a reputation for a lively, well-run competition featuring some of the best show choirs in the region.
This year is no exception. MusicFest 2008 promises to be the largest show choir event in the area with at least 20 show choirs from West Virginia, Ohio and Maryland participating.
Since show choir competition is something akin to American Idol, Dancing with the Stars and a basketball tournament all rolled into one day, we believe this is the first time the Civic Center has been used for an event of this type. More than 1,000 students are expected to participate.
Also, for 2008, we added competitions for middle school and all-girl groups, as well as boy’s and girl’s solo competitions.
MusicFest will be held on Saturday, February 2nd. Preliminary competition starts at 8:30 am. Finals start at 7:30 pm.
Ticket’s can be purchased at the door.
As the host school, Poca's Visual Volume will perform but not compete.
For more info or if someone would like to advertise at this event, please call Joseph Kincaid at Poca High School, 304-755-5001 ext 211.
Poca's show choir website is http://www.phsvisualvolume.org/
Here’s a preliminary schedule (subject to change). Middle schools current signed up are Act Two, MD and Dunbar Middle. All-Girls groups are Robert C Byrd and Act Two girls.
