Rock Branch Mechanical, Inc., is pleased to announce the winner of
their Logo Design Contest - Nick Mead of Scott Depot. Nick is a
first year student enrolled in the Graphic Design program at the
Putnam Career & Technical. The company has never had a logo and felt
it was time for a change to something that was recognizable to their
clients and customers as being “Rock Branch Mechanical”.
Rock Branch Mechanical began business in 1947 as St. Albans Metal
Works, Inc., installing heating and cooling equipment for people in
the Kanawha Valley. Rock Branch Mechanical, Inc. began operating in
the early 1980s as a service oriented entity. The two companies
merged in the late 1980s to become more efficient and cognizant of
the needs of the residents and businesses who had become our
customers, not only in the Kanawha Valley but around West Virginia
and surrounding states. James B. Clark is the current president.
“The Design Contests are usually reserved for 2nd year
students (the more advanced class), but this year the first year
students have been able to participate in quite a few design contest
and have even won a couple. They have really shown a lot of talent.
I’m really proud of them.” Jennifer Bayless, Graphic Design
Instructor at Putnam Career & Technical Center.
“We feel that we have an obligation to help the communities in the
area grow. With that in mind, we asked the Graphic Design Class at
PCTC to design our new logo,” stated Brandon Clark Corporate
Secretary, “ …it was a tough choice all of the students did a great
job. However, Nick’s design grabbed the attention of the Engineers
in our corporation. It represents the building and design side of
business,” he said.
The competition was open to design students enrolled in the program.
Mead received a $500 scholarship for his winning design. Nick is the
son of Laurie and David Fisher of Scott Depot. Nick is a
Junior at Winfield High School.
