LEE, CARTER, NAMED TEAYS PHYSICAL THERAPY CAGER'S OF THE WEEK
Press Release

Teays Physical Therapy Center, Inc. is pleased to present this week’s “Cager’s of the Week” awards to Brittany Lee of Winfield High School and Devin Carter of St. Albans High School.

The defending State AA champion Winfield Lady Generals have had quite a good season.  They currently stand with a record of 16-5, and are ranked in the top 5 in AA.  A lot of their success has to do with the play of junior guard/forward Brittany Lee.  Last week, in a 72-33 win over Poca, Brittany led her team with 19 points and 11 rebounds.  She averaged a double-double throughout the year, and has set the Generals up for a run at another post-season title.  When asked about her success, Brittany says, “I took the ball to the basket last week, and tried to get my teammates involved.  We played very well against Poca, and I feel we can continue that success throughout the rest of the year.”  Brittany has her teammates ready to make a run at a second consecutive State Championship.  When asked her expectations for the post-season, Brittany says, “Obviously, we want to win another State Championship.  I think we have to take it one game at a time, and hopefully we will be there in the end to defend our title.”  Brittany not only excels on the court, but off the court as well where she carries a 3.89 GPA.  Brittany compares her style of play to former WNBA player Sue Bird.  “I like how Sue Bird plays the game.  She really knows the game well, and she can play both point guard and the guard position, which is what I like to do,” says Brittany.

The St. Albans’ High School Red Dragons boy’s basketball team has had an up and down year.  Currently standing with a record of 10-12, the Red Dragons are looking to shock someone in the post-season and hopefully make a trip to Charleston.  Last week in a win over Princeton, junior swingman Devin Carter stepped up his game with a stat line of:  23 points, 8 rebounds, and 5 assists.  When asked about his success, Devin says, “I had to step it up last week.  We had some guys missing, I felt like I put the team on my back and do most of the scoring to allow us to win.”  When asked about how he enabled his team to win, Devin says, “I hit a couple of early three-pointers, and that opened up the rest of the court.  I was able to drive to the hoop and pick up points and then dish off to my teammates.”  Head Coach Tom Osborne is excited about the play of his junior swingman.  “Devin is one of the best athletes in the school, if not in the state.  He has great leaping ability, and he shoots the ball well.  I think he will be a tremendous force for us in the future,” says Coach Osborne.  When asked about his expectations for the post-season, Devin says, “We hope to make a strong run in the playoffs, and hopefully knock off a few teams and get to Charleston.”  Head Coach Osborne agrees. “Right now we are focused on one team, Nitro. We feel if we can take it one game at a time, and keep our focus only on one team, we may be able to knock off a few teams and hopefully make a good run late into the post-season.”  Devin not only excels on the court but off the court as well where he carries a 3.0 GPA.  Devin compares himself to Miami Heat guard Dwayne Wade.  “DeWayne Wade is one of the best players in the NBA.  He likes to take the ball to the hoop.  He is a slasher, and he doesn’t like to shoot the 3, which is exactly like me,” says Devin.  Head Coach Osborne compares Devin to another former Red Dragon standout.  Coach Osborne says, “Devin is about as quick as Brett Nelson, but he has a lot to learn in the knowledge of the game.  Brett knew the game really well, and I think Devin is getting to that point.”

Look for Brittany, Devin, and other local area high school athletes to be named next week’s Cager of the Week sponsored by Teays Physical Therapy Center, Inc.
