JENKINS NAMED GAMER OF THE WEEK
Press Release
Teays Physical Therapy Center, Inc. is pleased to present this week’s "Gridiron Gamer of the Week" award to Josh Jenkins of Poca High School.
The Poca Dot football team enjoyed incredible success at the beginning of the decade, winning State Championships three years in a row. The Dots, however, have recently endured two tough losing seasons in a row, and little is know about this years' team. After losing to Nitro the first week of year, things again looked bleak for the Dots. Last week, however, the Dots stepped up and delivered a massive blow to any doubters about their program.
Thanks to the play of wide receiver Josh Jenkins, the Dots defeated Ravenswood 32-0. Jenkins recorded two catches for 111 yards, one touchdown, and a two-point conversion. He also had a long punt returned to setup another Dots' touchdown.
Head Coach Bob Lemley says, "Josh’s play last week really provided a spark for us. His offensive play was nothing short of outstanding, but what you don’t see in the stats is his defensive play. He had a strong defensive game that set the tone." When asked about his success last week, Josh points all the accolades towards his teammates. Josh says, "We worked real hard this off-season as a team, and the line blocked extremely well the other night. This has allowed me to make things happen for our team."
Jenkins' play on the field has Poca teammates and fans alike excited about his contributions. He also has his head coach excited. "Josh reminds me of a big time possession type receiver. He can go get the ball if it is near him, and his athleticism allows him to make spectacular plays. I wouldn’t say he was as fast as Randy Moss, but if I had to compare him to a possession type receiver, it would be him," says Coach Lemley. Jenkins, on the other hand, thinks of himself in the roll of another big time receiver: Bengals wide out Chad Johnson. "I think I play a lot like Chad Johnson. I like to make things happen and so does he, but it is all for our team," says Josh. Let’s hope that Jenkins doesn’t emulate his favorite wide out and turn his teeth gold anytime soon.
