IN THE KITCHEN... R & M's Wing World
Cited For 38 Putnam Health Code Violations

R & M's Wing World, in Hurricane, is open again for business, after it                                  was cited for 38 health                                 code violations during                                four inspection visits                                   from April 23rd until                                   May 1st.

For a brief time, the                                  restaurant was ordered                             closed by Putnam County Health Department Sanitarian Barbara Koblinsky, R.S.

During the first inspection, (April 23rd) which resulted in the closing, Wing World was cited for 10 "Critical" violations and 8 "Non-Critical" violations. Page one of that inspection report is posted above this story.

The 10 "Critical" violations Include:

  1. Hand sink not working - unclean water backed up into sink.

  2. Prep tables not clean.

  3. Prep unit & cutting board not clean.

  4. Containers stored above 3-vat sink.

  5. Hot dog chili in container stored in unclean water on hot unit.

  6. Inside of 2-door refrigerator not clean.

  7. Container of half-eaten food thrown on top shelf in 2-door refrigerator.

  8. Container of moldy beans in 2-door refrigerator.

The Putnam County Health Department did not supply page two of the April 23rd inspection report which, apparently, listed the other two "Critical" violations.

Koblinsky made several more inspections after April 23rd and cited R & M's Wing World for more violations. They include:

April 27th: 13 "Non-Critical" violations.

April 29th: 5 repeat "Non-Critical" violations.

May 1st: 2 "Non Critical" violations.

PutnamLIVE.com telephoned R & M's Wing World and spoke with owner Mahendra Vyas. He denied that there were 38 violations and said, "During a recession the media should try to help businesses." He also invited PutnamLIVE.com over for an inspection and free lunch at an appointed time. If we choose to take him up on his offer, the time will be a surprise so that we can see the everyday conditions of the R & M's Wing World kitchen.

Publisher's note:
All inspections are provided by the Putnam County Health Department which chooses which facilities to inspect. Any questions about the inspections should be directed to Administrator Jacqueline Fleshman at 304-757-2541.
