Scott Depot resident and parent of two Putnam County Schools students, Steve Hoffman, filed pre- candidacy paperwork with the County Clerk’s office in a bid for a seat on the Putnam County School Board in the upcoming spring election.
Mr. Hoffman believes that Putnam County has one of the top school systems in West Virginia and he wants it to remain that way. “There needs to be equal opportunities for all students in all areas of the county, and I am eager to work to ensure that this happens. There is also the ongoing question of teacher pay. In a recent survey, West Virginia ranked once again at the bottom of the list. If we want to attract and keep quality teachers, this needs to be addressed.” This represents just a very short list of issues that Mr. Hoffman wants to work towards.
This is Mr. Hoffman’s first bid for Public Office. “I am excited about the opportunity to be part of a team that can make a difference in a child’s life. The children are the future and they need to be equipped with the knowledge and tools to be successful.”
Mr. Hoffman is a 1981 graduate of Poca High School, a 1983 Graduate of National Institute of Technology, and has attended Marshall University. His wife, Kim, is a graduate of Winfield High School, West Virginia State College, and the University of Charleston. They have two children who are students at Scott Teays Elementary and Winfield Middle School. Mr. Hoffman is a member of First Baptist Church of Nitro where he serves on the Board of Deacons and is part of the Children’s Ministry team. He has also been active in the Boy Scouts of America, serving as Cubmaster and Committee Chairman.
