Teays Physical Therapy Center, Inc. is pleased to present this week’s “Diamond Gamers of the Week” awards to Brittany Williams from Buffalo High School and Justin Henry from Hurricane High School.
The Buffalo Bison lady softball team is looking to continue their success of recent years. Last week, the Lady Bison were in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina participating in a spring break tournament. The ladies won two games and lost three. The Lady Bison currently stand with a record of 4/4, and are ranked number 3 in class A. A lot of their play has to do with the leadership of junior catcher Brittany Williams. Brittany is one of the leaders on the team in batting average and hits. When asked about her success, Brittany said, “I haven’t been doing as well as I had hoped, but I feel like my batting is slowly coming to me. I feel our team as a whole is off to a slow start, but we are starting to get things together as the season goes on.” Brittany plays the catcher position, and defensively is one of the top prospects in the state. “I threw out four girls at the beach, and a couple in a game the other night. I want to make sure my defense keeps the game in our favor defensively,” said Brittany. Brittany looks forward to a great 2008 season with her teammates. Brittany said, “We need to learn to trust each other a little better, and that will come. We want to be there at the end of the year and win Sectionals, Regionals, and advance to the State Tournament.” Brittany carries a 3.6 GPA in the classroom.
The Hurricane High School Redskins baseball team recently returned from a trip down south. They went 2/2 on the trip and look forward to another great season. A lot of their success is due to the play of senior pitcher Justin Henry. Last week, Justin scorched the batter’s box by going 8/15 and pitching tremendously well down south. When asked about his success, Justin joked, “I think it was the warm weather. Seriously, I feel we just, as a team, never give up and always find a way to get things done.” Justin also homered two times in the last game of the trip, showing that he is not only a tremendous pitcher, but also very dangerous at the plate. When asked about his expectations for the rest of the season, Justin said, “I feel like if we can hang around games, we are a very dangerous team. We have experience that will take us far into the post-season, and hopefully to the state tournament.” Justin is not only dangerous on the field, but off the field as well where he carries a 3.6 GPA in the classroom.
