HARRIS NAMED GAMER OF THE WEEK
Press Release
Teays Physical Therapy Center, Inc. is pleased to present this week's "Gridiron Gamer of the Week" award to Nick Harris of Buffalo High School.
The Buffalo Bisons football team is coming off a tremendous season from last year, where they were undefeated and made it into the second round of the playoffs. With the loss of some key seniors from that team, the Bisons didn’t know what to expect for this year. However, after a couple opening losses, the strong arm of junior quarterback Nick Harris has brought the Bisons to a .500 record and has their eyes set for the post-season. Last week, in a 40-12 win over Fayetteville, Nick was 6-7 for 137 yards and 2 touchdowns. Nick also ran for another touchdown, and his contributions on defense were very important. When asked about the team’s success last week, Nick says, "We came out early and established the run. This was very important, and allowed us to throw the ball to set up some scores. We also figured out how to stop them on defense after their first drive, and this helped for the rest of the game." Head coach Mike Sawyer agrees with Nick. "In the first couple games, Nick was kind of off sync with his receivers. But after last week, they got together and really looked comfortable with each other against Fayetteville," says Coach Sawyer.
Harris looks like a mini coach on the field, and his coach couldn’t be happier with that. "Nick and I have a real good relationship, and he has become very vocal with his leadership this year. On the field, he sees things that I can't, and we work well together," says Coach Sawyer. Nick points all his personal accomplishments towards his coaches and teammates. "Last week, Coach Sawyer called some real good plays to get me comfortable with the passing game. Our defensive coaches really figured out how to stop Fayetteville early on, and this allowed us to run the ball and control the clock," says Nick.
When asked about whom he compares himself to, Nick's answer shows that he is quite the student of the game. "I really don’t pick out one particular player to compare myself to. I try to watch different quarterbacks, and copy and imitate their styles to make myself better rounded."
When asked about the post-season both the coach and the player have high expectations. "I think we can win out if we can beat some high rated teams and play well against them," Nick says. Coach Sawyer agrees and says, "We put our backs against the wall by losing the first two games, but I think if we play well, we can make it to the post-season again." Nick is not only an excellent leader on the field, but off the field as well. He carries a 3.4 Grade Point Average in the classroom.
If you want to see one of the best quarterbacks in the state of West Virginia come out and watch Nick Harris as he lights up the scoreboard against opposing defenses. Look for Nick and other local area high school athletes to be named next week's Gridiron Gamer of the Week presented by Teays Physical Therapy Center, Inc.
