Hurricane High School has been named one of “American’s Top High                                   Schools” for 2008 by                                    Newsweek magazine.

Newsweek ranks all                                      public schools in the                                     nation using the                                     Challenge Index, a                                   ratio of the number of                               advanced placement tests taken to the number of graduating seniors.  Schools in the top five percent are rated as America’s best.

According to Heather Hawes, Putnam County Schools AP Coordinator, Hurricane High students took 296 tests in May of 2007; the school graduated 233 seniors.

Hurricane is one of only three West Virginia high schools to achieve this distinction. Other schools are George Washington High and Morgantown High School.

Congratulations to Hurricane High students and staff!
