Teays Physical Therapy Center, Inc. is pleased to present this week’s “Cagers of the Week” award to Kelsey Griffith and Adam Kline of Winfield High School.
The Winfield High School Lady Generals are off to another great start for the 2008 year. Currently standing at 8-0, the Generals have another State Tournament appearance set in their sights, and hope to walk away this year with the State Title.
Recently, in a 101-40 win over visiting Logan, the Generals showed their dominance in the rout.
Senior Kelsey Griffith led the charge as she recorded 25 points and 7 rebounds in leading her team to victory. When asked about her accomplishment, Kelsey says, “I wouldn’t be able to succeed without my teammates. We all played well and I distributed the ball, and that led to our victory.”
Kelsey is not only a leader on the court, but off the court as well where she carries a 3.9 GPA. When asked about the team’s goals for the rest of the year, Kelsey says, “We hope to get back to the State Tournament, and hopefully walk away with the championship this year.”
Kelsey is often compared to Miami Heat guard Dwayne Wade. Kelsey says, “I think that we are similar because we are both team players. If we have to score we can, but we both enjoy giving the ball to our teammates and watching them play too.”
The Winfield Generals boys’ basketball team is also off to another successful start this year. Currently standing at 6-1, the Generals looked to avenge their only prior loss to Poca High School last week. The Generals came out ready to play, and looked to the guidance of sophomore player Adam Kline to lead the way. Adam responded, going 11-14 from the field and scoring 26 points to lead his team to a 70-48 win over Poca.
Adam also controlled the paint by recording 13 rebounds. When asked about his success, Adam says, “We came out ready to play. We had lost to Poca, and we wanted to show everybody we were a better team than what we had displayed.”
He also excels in the classroom where he carries a 3.8 GPA. When asked about the upcoming season, Adam said, “We obviously want to finish the year strong, and end up back in the State Tournament. Our goal is the State Championship.” Adam’s play reminds you of West Virginia junior forward Joe Alexander. When asked about how they compare, Adam said, “I think we are both team players. We also have pretty good basketball smarts. He knows how to play the game, and I try to pattern myself like him.”
Look for Kelsey, Adam, and other local area high school athletes to be named next week’s Cager of the Week sponsored by Teays Physical Therapy Center, Inc.
