Teays Physical Therapy Center, Inc. is pleased to present this week’s “Co-Gridiron Gamer of the Week” award to Jeremy Gobel and Terrell Martin of Hurricane High School.
The Hurricane High School Redskin football team finds themselves in good position to make another run at the West Virginia State Title in 2007. They currently stand with a record of 4-1 and are looking to continue that success for the rest of the year.
Last week in a 43-24 win over Woodrow Wilson the Redskins were looking for leadership, and senior receiver/safety Jeremy Gobel stepped up. Jeremy picked off 2 passes for the defense, and caught 2 touchdowns on offense to lead Hurricane to the victory. One of the receiving touchdowns was on a long Hail Mary pass at the end of the first half. Jeremy says, “We worked on that play in practice, but never in a game. Justin threw it up, and I went up, got it and came down with it to give us some momentum going into halftime.”
Also helping to lead the Redskins march was junior “Mr. Everything” Terrell Martin. Terrell showed his versatility with a 26-yard touchdown catch. He also had a 64-yard touchdown run to give Hurricane some momentum in the game. The biggest turn of the whole game came after a Woodrow Wilson touchdown to cut the lead to 10 points. Terrell took the kickoff and returned it 91 yards for a touchdown to seal the victory. Terrell says, “Our line blocked well, and I was able to play well behind the great blocking of Jeremy Gobel and Matt Brown. Justin Henry, our quarterback, also threw the ball well to me and allowed me to make some plays.”
Head Coach Willis May could not be happier with his two star players. Coach May says, “These boys have really stepped it up and made plays for us. We need them to continue to do this throughout the season, and I think that they will. We are looking to make a run in the post-season and hopefully get to Wheeling.” Jeremy agrees with his coach. “We want to win as many games as we can and get to Wheeling this year,” says Jeremy.
Jeremy and Terrell are not only excellent players on the field; they are also excellent students in the classroom. “Both these boys are excellent kids. I love them to death, and they really make you want to be around them more,” says Coach May. Jeremy carries a 2.3 G.P.A in the classroom, where Terrell carries a 4.0 G.P.A.
Look for Jeremy, Terrell, and other local area high school athletes to be named next week’s Gridiron Gamer of the Week sponsored by Teays Physical Therapy Center, Inc.
