Less than 15 years after Faith Christian
Fellowship started in
its pastor's home, the
growing church is
already making plans
to move out of its
Family Worship Center
and into a new
sanctuary.
The landmark Putnam
County church keeps
growing, despite a
recession that has many churches across America squeezing their
budgets.
Faith Christian Fellowship held its first worship service in the
home of Founding Pastor Jim Boggess in April, of 1996. About five
families soon grew to a congregation of 40 by the end of the year,
Boggess recalls. Now, about 200 people worship in the church's
building on the north side of Route 62 near the Jonathan
Higginbotham Memorial Bridge.
The current Family Worship Center was constructed in the spring of 1997 and expanded in 2,000, Boggess says.
Now the church is planning a new sanctuary in an empty field next door. Boggess says it will seat 426 worshippers and allow more uses of the current building.
When will the groundbreaking happen? Boggess
isn't sure. "We just don't want to go in debt," he says, "With a
whole bunch of money.
Why is Faith Christian Fellowship growing?
"Number one, the people," Bogess says. "Number two, the message of
the Gospel. We preach that God is a supply and a source for people's
lives. We want our church to be a well for people to draw from."
His brother, Associate Pastor Paul Boggess says, "It's special because every part of the family can be ministered to on their level."
That means a strong children's church is
offered every Sunday while the adults are worshipping in the main
room.
"This church preaches a living God," says Jim Boggess. "He's not
just a God that will be. He is a God today.
When you walk in on Sunday morning, you can
feel the energy. Faith Christian Fellowship is a Spirit-Filled
Church. and that means excitement.
"We put an emphasis on the Holy Spirit," Paul Boggess says. "We just
let God be God."
"People leave here saying, 'Man, you made it so simple,'" Jim
Boggess says.
Jim Boggess has a degree from Life Christian University, in Tampa
Bay, Florida but continues his Bible studies every day. Members says
he is a spiritual leader and a family leader.
"Faith Fellowship is like family," says Thomas Earley, of Pliny.
Jim & Sue Sayre, Cross Lanes have attended Faith Christian
Fellowship for about 13 years. "I get the Word fed, and preached,"
says Jim. "It's just the whole Bible preached to you... Just like no
where that I've ever been."
"Just the love that you feel when you walk through the door," says
Sue. "It's just like one big family."
With the New Year, Jim Sayre says Faith Christian Fellowship will continue to grow. "In the year 2010 it's going to grow beyond our expectations." He says that's because of the Biblical preaching from Boggess and guest pastors. "There's a Word level here that you don't find at many other churches."
The congregation of Faith Christian Fellowship worships the Lord every Sunday at 10:00 a.m.
Wednesday worship is at 7:00 p.m.
The church telephone number is: 304-937-2600.
