Anyone can be the target of an Email scam. Even the publisher of a news web site.
Someone has been trying to rip PutnamLIVE.com off- but has failed.
We have been getting Spam Emails from someone pretending to work for major banks across the country-banks that PutnamLIVE.com has never had accounts with.
The various "Alert" messages encourage the recipient to open them-then reply.
If you receive one of these, DO NOT REPLY to the Email. In fact, "Don't open the Email." That's the recommendation of Hurricane Chief of Police W. "Mike" Mullins. "They are trying to scam innocent people," says Mullins. "If you reply, they could get personal information. Of course, we have not
The "Phishing" as the scam is commonly called, happens often, Mullins says. People can be randomly targeted or specifically targeted. For example, PutnamLIVE.com has several Email addresses. Only one-so far-has been targeted.
