Winfield Elementary School Assistant Principal Tammy Dill has been honored by the West Virginia Center for Professional Development as a West Virginia Principal’s leadership Academy Distinguished Scholar.
Dill was among only eleven new elementary school administrators so honored for illustrating exemplary participation and work in the 2006-2007 Principals’ Leadership Academy for new principals.
The academy offers new administrators an opportunity to hone their leadership skills in a collegial atmosphere based on the concept of continuous improvement. Working with team leaders and peers, each administrator develops an action plan that will positively impact student performance and achievement in their schools.
Dill’s not only gained distinction for her action research plan, but she also gained $750 to use to institute the plan. Dill will use the funding to provide professional development for the teachers in her building.
Dr. Dixie Billheimer, PLA program director, lauds Dill and other Distinguished Scholars: “These principals are to be commended for dedicating the time and energy needed to produce such quality plans,” she states. “They understand that their roles as instructional leaders require a high degree of creative thinking, planning, and organizing and much of that is reflected in their work,” she says.
