CROUCH, MARTIN NAMED TEAYS PHYSICAL THERAPY TRACKSTERS OF THE WEEK
Hurricane, Winfield Student-Athletes Honored

News release

Teays Physical Therapy Center, Inc. is pleased
to present this week’s                               “Trackster of the                                 Week” award to                                      Caleb Martin of                                     Winfield High School                                  and Josie Crouch of                                   Hurricane High School.

The Winfield High                                     School boys’ track team is off to a torrid start for the 2009 season. After graduating a lot of good runners last year, the boys were wondering where they would be at this point in the season.

Senior Caleb Martin was also one of those wondering. Caleb says, “To tell the truth, I didn’t know where we would be. I had some doubts about who would step up and who would lead, but those doubts were definitely wrong.”

The person who stepped up to lead was Caleb himself. Caleb has won every meet so far this year in the 110-high hurdles, and his times have been amazing. Caleb won the Winfield Classic meet this past week with a score of 15.30 seconds. It was a good time, but not his best.

“It was an alright time,” Caleb recalls, “But I want to have my times down less than that as we go through the season. I am looking at my goal to break into the 14 second range, and I think I can do that this week or the next.”

Caleb has high expectations for his team for the post-season. He says,, “We have had some success here at Winfield for the last couple years, and even though it is our first year in AAA we feel like we can compete. Once we get a couple guys back that are injured, like senior Chad Quick, I think we can compete for a state title this year.”

Caleb not only excels on the track, but also the track as well where he carries a 3.0 GPA in the classroom.

Last year the Hurricane Lady Redskins track team couldn’t have performed at a much higher level.  he ladies won the AAA state track title, showing their determination throughout the year to bring home the award.

Much of the success was due to junior Josie Crouch. Josie and her teammates went to the Bulldog Classic in Louisville, Kentucky, which showcased much out of state talent. Josie was not intimidated as she brought home the first place prize in the 800-meter dash with a time of 2 minutes and 15 seconds.

When asked about her success Josie says, “I feel like I put a lot of time and effort into my running. I do off season track, I do indoor track, and I work hard at what I do and hope that it pays off.”

Josie is the two-time West Virginia state record holder in the 400-meter dash, and also the current state title holder in the 800-meter dash as well.

When asked about her expectations for the rest of the year Josie says, “First of all I hope our team can go back and win the state title for the second year in the row. That is my number one goal. As far as myself, I hope to bring my 400 time down into the 57.4 range, and continue to improve in my 800-meter time as well.  I think if I can do that it can really help our team be successful.”

Josie not only excels on the track but also off as she carries a 4.0 GPA in the classroom.

Look for Caleb, Josie, and other local area high school athletes to be named Tracksters of the Week sponsored by Teays Physical Therapy Center, Inc.
