News release

Teays Physical Therapy Center, Inc. is pleased to present this week’s                       “Tracksters of the                                  Week” awards to Josie                           Crouch and Terrell                                  Martin of Hurricane                                      High School.

The Hurricane High                                   School Lady Redskins                                 track team has had tremendous success the last couple of years.

This year, the Ladies come in ranked as the preseason favorite to walk away with the State track meet title.

Much of this expectation has to do with sophomore phenom Josie Crouch. At the Carlos Acres Invitational at Cabell Midland, Crouch showed why she is regarded as one of the best running prospects in the state of West Virginia.  She ran a 58.8 second 400-meter and a 2:23.78 second 800-meter dash.  These were event records. Crouch was also a part of the 4 by 800-meter relay team, which set an event record with 10:07.06 time.

When asked about her success, Crouch says, “I worked on speed this week, and it seemed to help us a lot in the meet. We want to set our goals high, and I want to get to where I can run a 55 second 400-meter dash.”

Crouch has high expectations for her team for the rest of the year. She says, “We want to go undefeated in our events and hopefully win the State Title in May.”

Crouch is ahead of the pack in the classroom as well where she carries a 3.7 GPA.

The Hurricane High School boys’ track team is also enjoying good success. At the same Carlos Acres Invitational, Redskins junior Terrell Martin demonstrated his speed for everyone in attendance. Martin won the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.16 seconds.  He also won the 200-meter dash with a scorching time of 20.70 seconds. Martin set the event record for the 400-meter dash with a 49.70 second time, which was almost 2 seconds better than the previous record. He also scored the coveted high-point award during the meet.

When asked about his success, Martin says, “I feel that early in the season I am running pretty good.  I hope to continue my success for the rest of the season.”

Martin has his sights set on May where he hopes he can repeat as state champion in the 200-meter. He says, “I hope to win the State Title again in the 200-meter dash when the state track meet comes in May.  I would also like to win the 100, but I have to compete with a lot of good athletes there.”

Martin also excels in the classroom where he carries a 3.75 GPA.

Look for Josie, Terrell, and other local area high school athletes to be named Tracksters of the Week sponsored by Teays Physical Therapy Center, Inc.
