COVENANT CHURCH GETS PARKING LOT
Elevator Also Added For Accessibility

They are things you often take for granted: A parking lot and an
elevator. But until very
recently, Presbyterian
Church of the
Covenant, didn't have
either.

“It just got paved this
past week” says Pastor
Rob Laukoter. "Now we
have
46 spaces.

Smooth asphalt has
replaced a rough dirt
and gravel lot where
drivers dared to park.

“The whole landscape
has changed,
says
Laukoter. “There used
to be a knoll and a
loop where people
parked.”

Finishing touches have yet to be added, but most of the work has been completed. That's great news for worshippers who risked getting the paint on their cars scratched by gravel or had to walk across the rough lot.

A congregation member, who chooses not be publicized, donated much of the work, Laukoter says. But the parking lot isn't the only thing that makes the church more accessible. A new elevator was recently added linking the first and second floors of the complex.

The parking lot and elevator are just the beginning of an exciting new expansion, Laukoter says. A new narthex is planned on the north end of the church. And a meditation garden is in the works near the church's pond.

Cost of the expansion is Close to $450,000,” the pastor says. That's big money for a congregation of 100 members. But they are stepping up to the offering plate to make great things happen at their church, great things to reach out to Putnam County.

“We titled the campaign 'Build to Love,' and the whole basis of our church is 'Living the Love of Jesus Christ.' The building campaign is to enable us to do that more so, Laukoter says.  Building the elevator allows people that can’t use the stairs get around our building. The new bathrooms with showers (in the planned narthex) allow our mission teams to have a place to clean up.”

With winter weather around the corner and some more money needed for the narthex, the construction is scheduled to start in the spring of 2010.

If you would like to make a donation for the construction projects or just help the church reach Putnam County, please telephone
