CELERIO, WALTERS, NAMED TPTC DIAMOND GAMERS OF THE WEEK
Poca, St. Albans Student-Athletes Honored

News release

Teays Physical Therapy Center

Teays Physical Therapy Center, Inc. is pleased
to present this week’s                               “Diamond Gamers of                                   the Week” awards to                                    Andrea Celerio, from                                   Poca High School, and                                    Wade Walters, from                                    St. Albans High School.

Andrea Celerio, a                                    senior at Poca High School, is our Softball Diamond Gamer of the Week. She is also a player that has started to come around and hit the ball really well as the season has progressed.

Poca’s week included an extra innings loss to Hurricane in which they fell 8-6, and a 14-1 win over Ravenswood.

In the loss to Hurricane, Andrea was 3/4 with 2 doubles, and in the win over Ravenswood she was 2/3 with an RBI.

When asked why Andrea was successful this past week, she says, “I have been trying to concentrate at the plate, so my hitting is starting to come around.” When asked why the team has started to come around, Andrea says, “Everyone is starting to learn how to play together. We started to eliminate the mistakes we made at the beginning of the season, and we are also starting to hit the ball a lot better.”

Andrea is also good in the classroom where she carries a 3.6 Grade Point Average.

The St. Albans Red Dragons as a team are coming off a tremendous week in which they finished 5-1. They defeated Brighten, New York, Huntington, Parkersburg, Princeton, and lost to Nitro.

St. Albans is has a very young team.  Last season they lost 13 seniors.  At the beginning of the season you could tell they were young, but they are starting to come together.

Since last week their record has been raised to 14-9 overall and they look to make a run in the upcoming state tournament.

Wade Walters, a junior at St. Albans, had a tremendous week, recording 10 RBIs.  In the game versus Parkersburg he went 2/3 with a home run, 3 RBIs and the game-winning sacrifice fly. Walters is one of those players that will do whatever it takes on the field to get a win.  He works hard on and off the field and in the off season.

When asked why he was successful last week he says, “I am approaching the plate more relaxed. This is helping me see the ball a little bit better.” When asked why the team has been so successful this past week, Wade says, “We have been going out there and laying it all on the line. We go out there and instead of being tight, we are starting to really play baseball and have a lot of fun.”

Walters is not only a good baseball player, but a very good student in the classroom where he carries a 3.7 GPA.

Look for Andrea, Wade, and other local area high school athletes to be named Teays Physical Therapy Center Diamond Gamers of the Week.
