PutnamLIVE.com has learned that several power tools were recently stolen from the Hurricane Wal-Mart construction site.
Chief of Police Sonny "Joe" Sisk confirmed the thefts Thursday morning during an interview at his office.
Capt. W. Mike Mullins says a chop saw valued at $300, an air compressor valued at $200, and a generator valued at $500 were stolen for a total value of $1,000.
At first Sisk reported that a valuable compressor "worth several thousands of dollars" was stolen, but an investigation located the compressor.
The thefts remain under investigation, Sisk says, and it is apparent that the thief entered the construction site through the front gate which has been unlocked for weeks.'
"I wish they would lock that gate," says Sisk. "They have a lot of valuable equipment at the construction site. People should always guard their valuables."
No arrest has been made and no suspect has been named, according to Sisk.
If you know anything about this crime you are asked to contact the Hurricane Police Department at: 304-562-9911 or Putnam County Dispatch at: 304-586-0214. That number is operational 24-hours a day.
