BOARD APROVES DRUG TEST PROGRAM
Business To Donate Prizes When They Pass

Will gift certificates from Putnam County businesses be enough                                   to convince students                                    to take-and pass-tests                                for illegal drugs?

Putnam County                                    deputies and school                                  officials hope so.

A new program                                       targeting middle and                                   high school students                                  was approved by the Putnam County Schools Board of Education Monday.

Students may volunteer to submit urine samples for instant tests that screen for cocaine, marijuana, and other drugs including opiates and amphetamines. The tests will be administered by an independent company-not school officials. This is to ensure that the results are only revealed to  students and their parents.

According to Buffalo Chief of Police and Putnam County Deputy Sheriff Will Jordan, students that pass the drug tests will receive discount movie tickets, restaurant gift certificates, store coupons, and other items as they become available.

Superintendent of Schools Harold “Chuck” Hatfield says he favors the program which will start on a yet-to-be announced date.
