The boy’s baseball team had 3 wins last week. They defeated Valley Fayette 3-1, Wahama 8-1, and Charleston Catholic 5-1.
In those games, pitcher Jason Lewis showed his true domination from the mound. He pitched 14 innings last week, gave up only 3 hits and one earned run. In the Charleston Catholic game, Jason struck-out 16 batters.
When asked about his success, Jason says, “I throw everyday, and I try to stay in the groove. I have a good team behind me, and try to control the ball as much as possible.”
Jason feels that he and his teammates have a good shot of going far into the post-season this year. “We hope to get through our sectional and regional tournaments and hopefully advance to the state tournament,” Jason says. “If we play as good as we can, then we have a real good shot.”
The Buffalo High School Lady Bisons softball team has also had a tremendous year. The Lady Bisons are ranked in the top five in the single-A standings and look to carry on their success at the state tournament.
The play of junior third baseman Jessica Blake has helped guide the Lady Bisons the entire year.
Last week, in two sectional games against Wahama, Jessica showed why she is such a threat at the plate. In the first game, Jessica went 3/4 with a homerun, a triple, and a single in leading her team to victory. In the next game, Wahama intentionally walked her every at bat.
Jessica says, “I have been seeing the ball well and playing hard. I took it as a compliment when Wahama walked me in the second game.”
Jessica is batting .554 for the season with 9 homeruns. Jessica says, “If we play hard and stayed focused, we can go far into the post-season and hopefully bring home the State Championship.”
Jessica also excels in the classroom with a 3.0 GPA.
Please look for Jason, Jessica, and other local area high school athletes to be named Teays Physical Therapy Center Diamond Gamers of the Week.
