ASHLEY, WALLACE CAGER'S OF THE WEEK
Honored By Teays Physical Therapy
Press Release

Teays Physical Therapy Center, Inc. is pleased to present this week’s “Cager’s of the Week” awards to Caleb Ashley of Winfield High School and Kendra Wallace of Nitro High School.

The Winfield High Generals boy’s basketball team is off to a great start. They currently sit with a record of 8-2, and are one of the top AA-teams in the area. Much of their success has to do with the play of Caleb Ashley. Last week, in a 71-43 win over Point Pleasant, Caleb scorched the net for 30 points leading his team to victory. Caleb is not only a scoring threat, but plays well on defense, and he also pulled down 8 rebounds in the game.  What really turns heads was the fact that Caleb hit six 3-point shots to lead his team to the win. When asked about his success, Caleb says, “My teammates saw that I was shooting well, and they kept giving me the ball. This allowed me to take more shots, and I had the opportunity to knock them down.”  Caleb not only excels on the court, but off the court as well where he carries a 2.75 GPA. When asked about the rest of the season and post-season, Caleb says, “We want to make it to the State Tournament. We have a tough region and section, but I believe we can come through it and make another trip to Charleston.” Caleb’s favorite player of all time is Michael Jordan. When asked to compare himself to Jordan, Caleb says, “I don’t know if I can compare myself to M.J. However, I like the fact that he was a leader, and I try to express that on the court.”

The Nitro Lady Wildcats are off to a mediocre start for this season. However, junior forward/guard Kendra Wallace is scorching the nets again for the third straight year. Already exceeding 1000 points for her career, Kendra is leading West Virginia in scoring with a 28.7 points per game average. What is amazing is she does this in the MSAC conference, one of the toughest conferences in the state. Last week in the game against Woodrow Wilson, Kendra scored 24 points for the Wildcats. When asked about her success, Kendra says, “We haven’t won a lot of games yet, but we keep trying and hopefully we will turn things around in the near future.” When asked about the rest of the season and the post-season, Kendra says, “We would like make it to the State Tournament. I believe if we play well and play hard there might be an opportunity for us.”

Look for Caleb, Kendra, and other local area high school athletes to be named next week’s Cager of the Week sponsored by Teays Physical Therapy Center, Inc.
