Teays Physical Therapy Center, Inc. is
pleased
to present this week’s
“Gridiron
Gamer of the
Week”
award to Caleb
Arthur of
School
The Poca High School
Dots had an emotional
first week to the 2009
high school football season.
Senior Christian Combs was in a motor vehicle accident
the Tuesday before the game
leaving him in critical condition at the hospital.
The Dots faced their rival,
Poca found themselves down after four quarters, and were
trying to find the end zone to win the game for their fallen friend.
That is when senior Caleb Arthur decided to take the game in
own hands. Midway
through the fourth quarter, Arthur took a handoff and raced 65 yards
for a touchdown, giving the Dots the lead for good.
That gave them a 20-14 win over the Wildcats.
Arthur says, “Our line blocked well, and we knew that we were
trying to win this game for Christian.
I took the ball and saw an opening, and knew when I had a
step or two that I was going to try to put this game away for good.”
Caleb finished the game with 149 yards and one touchdown.
Head Coach Bob Lemley says, “Caleb had a great first game to
the season. He came out
and played with some fire, and enabled us to get a big win.”
Arthur directs all his accolades towards his teammates, saying, “Our
quarterback, Jason Cuffee, gives us the mindset that we can win.
He played well, and our line blocked tremendously well.
They are the reason I had so many holes to run through on the
night.”
Lemley agrees. “The
line played very well for the first game.
There were some mistakes, but all in all they did a good job.
They also gave us good pass protection, which kept everybody
from keying on Caleb during the game.”
When asked about his expectations for the season Arthur says, “We
want to take it one game at a time and not get ahead of ourselves.
This was a big win, but we have to come back next week and
take care of business again against Ravenswood.”
Arthur carries a 3.25 in the classroom, and compares his
style of play to that of San Diego Chargers running back Ladanian
Tomlinson. “I like how L.T.
plays. He runs the ball
amazingly, he catches the ball out of the back field, and he plays
with 100% every time he steps on the field.
I like to compare myself to him,”
he says.
